Tuesday — our day off from summer 2025

Starting next summer, Restaurant Moosalp will be closed every Tuesday — a decision that was not easy for us after more than 60 years of restaurant history. In an interview, Amade Kalbermatten explains why this step is still necessary and the considerations behind it.

Amade, the announcement that Restaurant Moosalp will be closed on Tuesday from summer 2025, has caused a stir. Why did you decide to take this step?

Yes, it is certainly a change that has not been easy for us ourselves. But it has become necessary. In recent years, we have had increasing difficulties in finding sufficient personnel. The hospitality industry is a demanding profession and the demands placed on personnel are high. It has become increasingly important for us to ensure that our team is not overhauled. That is why we have decided with a heavy heart to take a break on Tuesday from summer 2025 and thus give our employees a fixed day off.

Were there specific reasons why Tuesday was just elected?

Tuesday has turned out to be the quietest day of the week for us. It is the day when there are usually fewer visitors on the Moosalp. This makes it easier for us to close on that day without disappointing our regular customers or tourists too much.

You're talking about the difficulty of finding enough staff. Is this a problem that is being felt throughout the industry?

Absolutely. The shortage of skilled workers affects not only us, but the entire catering and tourism sector. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find good employees and retain them in the long term. At the same time, as an employer, we also want to take responsibility: We don't want to drain our staff and give them enough rest. That is why this additional day off is also a signal that the satisfaction and well-being of our employees is important to us.

How did employees react to the decision?

They were all in a positive mood. Most people have long expressed the wish to have more time to recover. This shows us that this step is not only necessary but also welcome. We hope that this fixed rest day helps keep our team motivated and full of energy in the long term.
